William and Ellen Craft wrote of their dramatic escape from slavery in Georgia, with Ellen posing as a man in the company
of his slave. They lived in England for a time, but eventually returned to Georgia where they operated a school. James M.
Trotter was a member of the 54th Massachusetts regiment in the Civil War. His son, William Monroe Trotter, was a radical political
activist and an associate of W.E.B. DuBois. Monroe's sister, Bessie, married Henry K. Craft, direct descendent of Charlie
Craft, the first born son of William and Ellen.
